Do you have some time to drive a neighbor to such things as a doctor visit, PT, hospital visits with loved ones, Publix or a hair care appointment? Most rides are in Palm Coast, but we travel as far as Jacksonville and Daytona for medical support. Our clients must be somewhat ambulatory to use HFF services as our volunteers will not be required to transfer a wheelchair-bound neighbor into their car. We try to develop schedules with our clients so our volunteers have advanced notice for their calendars. The Transportation coordinator facilitates that process through email and our growing number of driving volunteers is quick to reply. Volunteering for the Transportation team has great flexibility; you can easily choose when you are available to help. Many good conversations have taken place inside those vehicles!!! If this is an area of interest to you, please send a volunteer form and picture of your driver's license to COO@thehavenfamilyfund.org.
In-Home Visitation
Grand Haven has its share of neighbors whose spouse/partner is serving as primary care provider on a 24/7 basis. People need connections and caregivers need a break now and then. The expanding In-Home Visitation group is now large enough to create smaller teams of volunteers for each one of the families we visit/support. Our contact is relational; during a visit our volunteers play cards, and games, take a walk, talk, watch a movie, or simply are there for our home bound neighbors. This is a true blessing for everyone involved; the care giver, the recipient of our support and the volunteer. The In-Home Visitation coordinator organizes these teams and schedules visits each month. If this is an area of interest to you, please send a volunteer form and a picture of your driver's license to COO@thehavenfamilyfund.org
Education
Heading into our later years has many considerations and being prepared is very helpful. So far, we have organized meetings where hospital staff taught CPR, a resident discussed Estate Planning , another resident offered insight into computer technology and a local doctor detailed gastro-intestinal issues. HFF plans to provide a program each month. We have a small team beginning to develop new ideas and another teammate would be greatly appreciated! If this is an area of interest for you, please send a volunteer form to COO@thehavenfamilyfund.org.
Community Resources
Palm Coast and Flagler County provide a wide variety of public and social services that may be a benefit to us. The Community Resources team has been establish to identify these services, research them sufficiently to understand them, and communicate these opportunities to Grand Haven residents. The team also plans to identify different types of support groups (Alzheimer's, Cancer Survivors, Parkinson's, etc.) that could provide a degree of comfort when the circumstances of our lives change drastically. If this is an area of interest for you, please send a volunteer form to COO@thehavenfamilyfund.org
Outreach/Events
Every organization needs to market itself and HFF is no exception! Our Outreach team has sponsored Karaoke events, an Arts & Crafts Festival, and a Golf Tourney to let other neighbors know about our services. We hope to repeat these events and perhaps add new ones in the future. Volunteers are always needed to help with the organizational details. HFF also needs additional writers; wordsmiths that can help us create high-quality articles for email, newspaper, and local magazines.
